On 14th March 2023, the Secretary of the Society of Kenyan Cardiologists (SAoK), Edward Konzolo, and the Chairman of the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA), Dr. John Kyalo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to tackle cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and stroke in Kenya.

The MOU aims to provide online and physical training to health workers, patients, and their caregivers to improve their knowledge and skills in preventing and managing CVDs and Stroke.

SAoK and WCEA will also collaborate to create awareness campaigns on stroke nationwide.

According to the World Health Organization, CVDs and stroke are the leading causes of death globally, with low- and middle-income countries being disproportionately affected. In Kenya, these diseases contribute significantly to the country’s burden of disease and mortality.

Dr. Evans Nyambega, the Chairman of SAoK, expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating that it would enhance their efforts to reduce the burden of CVDs and stroke in Kenya. He added that collaborating with WCEA would bring expertise and resources to achieve their goals.

The MOU signing marks a significant milestone in the fight against CVDs and stroke in Kenya, and it is hoped that the partnership will lead to better health outcomes for Kenyans.
