Following the successful “Step-Up for Stroke Walk and Awareness Campaign” held in July 2025, the Stroke Association of Kenya (SAoK) held a productive follow-up meeting with the International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA) on October 16, 2025 in Nairobi.
The meeting served as a strategic platform to explore collaborative pathways in advancing stroke prevention, care, and policy advocacy in Kenya. Both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to improving public health outcomes through evidence-based legislation, awareness creation, and community engagement.
Discussions focused on aligning stroke advocacy efforts with Kenya’s broader non-communicable disease (NCD) policy framework, strengthening health system responsiveness, and supporting legislation that promotes equitable access to stroke care and rehabilitation.

Speaking during the meeting, representatives from both organizations emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in addressing stroke as a growing public health concern. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that stroke prevention and management receive the attention they deserve at both the national and county levels.
This meeting marks another milestone in SAoK’s ongoing journey to build strong, impactful partnerships that drive sustainable change. The collaboration with IILA is expected to pave the way for future joint advocacy initiatives, policy dialogues, and capacity-building programs aimed at enhancing Kenya’s stroke response.
As we move closer to World Stroke Day 2025, SAoK remains dedicated to its mission of raising awareness, influencing policy, and improving the lives of people affected by stroke across the country
