This past weekend, the 8th of June, 2025, we witnessed something unforgettable. Dozens of stroke survivors—many living with diverse disabilities—defied odds, defied pain, and walked 5 kilometers from Nyayo Stadium to Mbagathi SDA Church. Not just walked—they led, they inspired, and they showed us what resilience truly looks like.
Some walked with assistive devices. Some were guided by caregivers. Some needed rest stops. But all of them carried something no stroke could ever take away: unshakable hope.
Each step they took was a story:
🔹 A story of recovery when recovery seemed impossible.
🔹 A story of standing up after being told they’d never walk again.
🔹 A story of love, of community, of collective courage.

The event brought together key stakeholders from the health sector, stroke survivors, caregivers, and members of the public in a united effort to address the growing burden of stroke in Kenya.
Seeing them cross the finish line, cheering and smiling, reminded us that disability does not mean inability. It means adaptation. It means bravery. It means rising again, even if it takes everything you’ve got.
To all the survivors: you are warriors.
To all caregivers: you are angels in human form.
To the organizers: you are changing lives.
Let this not be a one-day story. Let it be the start of a movement.
