In a major step towards advancing stroke prevention, awareness, and care in Kenya, the Stroke Association of Kenya (SAoK) held a strategic meeting with the Angels Initiative, a globally recognized organization committed to transforming stroke care worldwide.
The meeting laid the groundwork for a powerful partnership aimed at empowering stroke patients, educating the general public, and supporting the healthcare system to respond more effectively to stroke across all levels of care.

Why This Collaboration Matters
Stroke remains one of the leading causes of disability and death in Kenya, yet timely interventions and public education remain limited. The collaboration between SAoK and the Angels Initiative is expected to bridge these gaps through comprehensive strategies that benefit patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
Key Areas of Collaboration
- Nationwide Stroke Awareness Campaigns
The partnership will support robust public education efforts to improve awareness of stroke signs and symptoms using the globally recognized FAST (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) approach. These campaigns will target communities, workplaces, and schools, making stroke knowledge accessible. - Training for Healthcare Providers
Through joint initiatives, frontline health workers across Kenya will receive specialized stroke care training, enhancing their capacity to recognize, treat, and manage stroke cases effectively. - Patient and Caregiver Empowerment
Plans are underway to roll out support resources for stroke survivors and their families, focusing on rehabilitation, recovery, and reintegration into daily life after a stroke. - Research and Data-Driven Interventions
The collaboration aims to improve stroke-related data collection and analysis, which will inform evidence-based programs and guide continuous improvement in stroke services. - Policy Advocacy and Health System Strengthening
Both teams will work together to advocate for national and county-level policies that prioritize stroke care, including funding for specialized units, rehabilitation services, and stroke programs.

A Shared Vision for a Stroke-Resilient Kenya
This meeting marks the beginning of a long-term partnership built on a shared vision: a Kenya where stroke is preventable, treatable, and survivable. With the Angels Initiative’s global experience and SAoK’s grassroots reach and local expertise, the collaboration holds a great promise for creating sustainable impact in stroke awareness and care delivery.
“Together, we can transform stroke care in Kenya—from the community to the hospital and from prevention to recovery.”
